Comparing PECO Energy Rates on Supply with the Competition

If you lived in the southeastern region of Pennsylvania prior to deregulation of the state's energy market, chances are your home was powered by PECO. Pre-deregulation, consumers in this and other areas of the state had no control over their monthly energy bill; they were subject to regulated rates charged by their local utility for the supply and delivery of the electricity and natural gas that fueled their home or business.

Now, consumers who do not want to settle for that government-regulated supply rate have the ability to sign up for service from an alternative electric or natural gas supplier. On, you can learn about a range of these suppliers and discover which companies might offer electricity and natural gas rates in your area. Find your Pennsylvania city or town below to find out more on PECO utility service and PECO energy rates on supply or click a different company name on the left to discover other options.

History of PECO

One of the oldest and largest utility companies in the United States, PECO was founded as Philadelphia's first wide-scale distributor of electricity. Since 1902, PECO has been serving residents and business owners of Philadelphia and a number of surrounding counties, supplying energy to customers using an expanding smart grid of power plants, transmission stations and service lines.

Now a subsidiary of the Exelon Corporation, the nation's largest competitive energy provider, PECO distributes electricity to more than 1.6 million customers and natural gas to 500,000 customers throughout southeastern Pennsylvania.

As a utility, PECO is in charge of monitoring and maintaining the intricate series of wires, poles and pipes that connect the supply of power to your home or business. It is important to keep in mind that if you live in the PECO service area or that of another utility, should you opt for an energy supply plan with an independent supplier you will continue to pay maintenance and delivery fees each month for the utility's services. The remainder of your bill is owed to your supplier for the amount of energy you consume – this amount makes up roughly half of your monthly bill.

PECO is making strides in the community

According to its website, PECO has a strong tradition of community leadership, putting its volunteer and charity energy into programs that have a meaningful impact on education, arts and community development. This effort includes planning and hosting cultural events, supporting youth groups and volunteer networks and fostering economic growth through backing of nonprofit organizations and small businesses.
